Background

In 2014, representative 50-year graduates from the M-E Class of 1964, as well as the Class of 1963, deemed it their civic duty to establish the M-E Half Century Scholarship Committee to oversee the Charles R. Miller Public Service Legacy Award as well as other scholarships deemed appropriate by the Scholarship Committee.  It is the goal of the Scholarship Committee to generate funds in perpetuity by soliciting donations from ALL graduates once they achieve 50-year status.  Other interested supporters of M-E students pursuing a higher educational curriculum are also encouraged to donate.  The Charles R. Miller Public Service Legacy Award will be funded through this solicitation as will other scholarships as determined by the M-E Half Century Scholarship CommitteeAt least one other scholarship will be awarded annually to an individual who seeks a higher educational curriculum that does not necessarily lead to a public service career but who will attend a 2-year college, trade or vocational school, or participates in an official skilled professional program.  Based on the number of applications generated and the amount of donations received, students will have the opportunity to apply for scholarship assistance to ensure access to instruction and training to transform their lives.  It is the hope that the M-E Half Century Scholarship Fund will help current and future graduates think of giving back to their community as they move through their lives, whether that is volunteering their specific skill or financially supporting causes within their community based on their ability to pay it forward.
