Background
In 2014, representative 50-year graduates from the M-E Class of 1964, as well as the Class of 1963, deemed it their civic duty to establish the M-E Half Century Scholarship Committee to oversee the Charles R. Miller Public Service Legacy Award as well as other scholarships deemed appropriate by the Scholarship Committee. It is the goal of the Scholarship Committee to generate funds in perpetuity by soliciting donations from ALL graduates once they achieve 50-year status. Other interested supporters of M-E students pursuing a higher educational curriculum are also encouraged to donate. The Charles R. Miller Public Service Legacy Award will be funded through this solicitation as will other scholarships as determined by the M-E Half Century Scholarship Committee.
Currently, two other scholarships are being funded by the M-E Half Century Scholarship Fund; the M-E Half Century Scholarship and the M-E Half Century STEM Scholarship. The M-E Half Century Scholarship will be awarded annually to at least one senior who plans to continue his or her education in what is considered a vocational or trade curriculum, whether that be a 2-year college, trade or vocational school, or participates in an official skilled program.
The M-E Half Century STEM Scholarship will be awarded to at least one senior who plans to pursue higher education at a 2- or 4-year college/university in the United States, majoring in the sciences, computer sciences (technology), engineering, math or related fields (such as accounting or economics)—otherwise known as STEM. NOTE that the M-E Half Century Scholarship Program has teamed with The Tatusko Family Memorial STEM Scholarship Fund and The Roberts Family STEM Scholarship Fund to simplify the application and selection process through a single application for consideration of the STEM Scholarship Awards by the Funds. ALTHOUGH the student is applying for all 3 scholarships mentioned in this paragraph as a method of simplifying the STEM application process, a student may only be awarded a single $3,000 scholarship among the three Scholarship Funds mentioned above. Three individual scholarships will be awarded in the sum of $3,000 each, one from each Fund listed above.
Based on the number of applications generated and the total dollar amount of donations received, students will have the opportunity to apply for scholarship assistance to ensure access to instruction and training to transform their lives. It is the hope that the M-E Half Century Scholarship Fund will help current and future graduates think of giving back to their community as they move through their lives, whether that is volunteering their specific skill or financially supporting causes within their community based on their ability to pay it forward.
